Twenty-four pigs (Albert, Bob, Charlie, Delilah, Engelbert, Francine, Greg, Hugh, Indila, Jackson, Kimberley, Liam, Maria, Norah, Octavia, Peder, Quentin, Rianna, Susannah, Timothy, Uriah, Victoria, Xavier, and Yumi) reside in separate houses that are all made of different materials (adobe, brick, concrete, eggshell, foil, formica, gum, hemp, iridium, iron, Jell-Oโ„ข brand gelatin dessert, lacquer, lead, molybdenum, naugahyde, opal, plastic, rayon, straw, tennessine, uranium, wood, xanthoconite, and yucca, respectively).

A wolf (Wolfgang) has a limited capacity to destroy houses which, on any particular occasion, permits him to destroy some, but not all, of the houses. The following conditions apply:

  • When the wolf destroys a wood house, he does not destroy a lacquer house.
  • When the wolf destroys an adobe house, he destroys a lacquer house but does not destroy a wood house.
  • When the wolf destroys an eggshell house, he also destroys a uranium house.
  • When the wolf destroys a lead house, he also destroys a lacquer house.
  • When the wolf destroys a rayon house, he also destroys a lacquer house or a tennessine house, or both.
  • When the wolf destroys both a uranium house and an eggshell house, he also destroys a Jell-Oโ„ข brand gelatin dessert house or a concrete house, or both.
  • When the wolf destroys a wood house, a tennessine house, or both, he also destroys at least one, and possibly more than one, of a brick house, a naugahyde house, a formica house, and a straw house.
  • When the wolf destroys a gum house, he also destroys both a hemp house and a lacquer house.
  • When the wolf destroys an opal house, he also destroys at least one, and possibly more than one, of a foil house, a uranium house, and a naugahyde house.
