How Are You Gentlemen !!

solution

In A.D. 1901

War was beginning.

What happen ?

In A.D. 1901, a bidding war was beginning among captains of industry over the ownership of various chemical resources. Anyone falling behind in this conflict would have no chance to survive.

If you know what you're doing, you can help determine which of these gentlemen ended up with what.

Somebody set up us the problem

Five gentlemen (Abercrombie, Billington, Carruthers, Darlington, and Edmonstone) each paid a different amount of money (from $1,000,000 to $5,000,000) for a different kind of facility meant to deal with a different chemical compound, each located in a different U.S. city.

  1. The depot was located in Zanesville, but neither the mine nor the warehouse was in Effingham.
  2. Billington bought the facility in Harrisville.
  3. The facility in Zanesville sold for $3,000,000; the sodium bicarbonate facility went to Darlington for less than that.
  4. The laboratory in Dearborn sold for more than $1,000,000, and it did not work with either quicklime or ammonia.
  5. Darlington's warehouse cost him less than $4,000,000.
  6. Edmonstone did not end up with the ammonia facility.
  7. Abercrombie's facility and the refining plant and the potash facility each cost more than $2,000,000.
  8. Only one facility was found in a city that started with the same letter as its purchaser's name.
  9. Carruthers was a big spender: he paid $4,000,000.
  10. The cheapest facility was found in either Akron or Effingham.
  11. Ammonia and caustic soda were processed in Effingham and Harrisville, though not necessarily in that order.
